What Is a Neuro-Spinal Shift?

In healthcare, there are established normal values for a lot of things. There is a normal measurement for blood pressure, normal cholesterol and normal vision as well. It does not mean that everyone is expected to be PERFECT; there are simply healthy ranges for people according to their age and situation. The same concept is applicable to other fields as well. The established parameters for tire pressure and warning indicators on the dashboard of your car are other examples letting you know when things are abnormal.

At Premier Chiropractic, we are looking for significant shifts of the spine away from normal. Minor abnormal shifts of areas of the spine, or spinal segments, are nothing to worry about. Remember, no one is absolutely 100% perfect, including spinal alignment. However, if the Neuro-Spinal Shifts are too far out of what is considered normal, then you will experience one or more of what we refer to as secondary conditions, or symptoms. The reason why we call them “secondary” is because they are the result of an underlying cause.

For example, if the head shifts forward beyond its normal position, as is the case with Anterior Head Syndrome, the shoulders have to compensate by twisting forward while the hips shift as well, forcing the entire spine out of alignment. These shifts cause the muscles to spasm, the tendons and ligaments to deform, and disrupt the nerves traveling down the spine.

In other words, the main communication system that connects your brain to your body can be disrupted when the primary condition, the Neuro-Spinal Shift, is left unaddressed.
